In the days leading up to the draft many draft experts had Christian Ponders stock rising, and had him going anywhere in the late first round to early 2nd round. The Vikings are a team that are also in desperate need of a quarterback with only Joe Webb and Rhett Bomar are the only 2 quarterbacks on the current Vikings roster. At this point it looks to be a safer pick than many first perceived on Draft night when the NFL.com draft grade for the Vikings was s 6.5 for the first round. In this article I'm going to go over 4 reasons why the Vikings made a safe pick with the 12th selection in the this years NFL Draft.

1. He Plays in a West coast system- Ponder played his college football at Florida State andthey played in a Pro-style offense, that's very similar to the west-coast offense that the vikings run. Even though Bill Muskrgrave the Vikings New offensive coordinator will bring a new flavor of the west coast offense thatmight be a little different than the Darell Bevell the former offensive coordinator style of the west coast offense we have seen for the past few years.

2. He is very Accurate with the Football - Another reason Ponder is a safe pick is that he is very accurate in the short to medium passing range which is the perfect tool set for a west coast offense quarterback. He also has very good timing with his throws this helps ease the transition from a colligate style offense to more of a Pro style offense.

3. Mechanically Sound- Another reason he is a safe pick is that he has very good mechanics and feet work. This is one of the most important qualities for a quarterback because good footwork leads to good accuracy with the football, and its something that can be tough to unlearn after years of muscle memory if he happen to need work. This will save Christian time in his early years since he has the footwork for a pro style offense

4.Strong Work Ethic and Very Bright - Last but not least , this kid is smart he has a Peyton Manning like work ethic. He finished his Degree in only 2 1/2 years, and is already on his second major. Hes extremely bright and former coach Steve Mariachi now NFL annalists said that ponder could "Learn your teams playbook in a week."He is also known to be anatural born leader by many friends and former teammates.

Even though its tough to grade a draft so soon, I think the Vikings made a smart and logical pick for the future of the franchise. Only time will tell if we are right or wrong, but I know one things for sure I will be wearing my Christian Ponder Vikings jersey this fall and Hopefully watching many Ponder to Harvin Touchdowns.
