After first half, the former England captain walked over to a section of the crowd holding anti-Beckham banners and signaled to an apparently hostile LA Galaxy fan to come closer, a man sitting in the crowd immediately jumped down from the seats but security managed to stop him before he reached Beckham.
The hostility comes after Beckham accepted a five month loan from AC Milan, which saw him missing almost 20 games for LA Galaxy. Ironically, the match being played was against AC Milan, which could explain the visibly bitter attitude towards the England star. The match ended up as a 2-2 draw and despite the fact that Beckham set up both goals, some Galaxy fans held up signs insulting and taunting him.
※Is evil something you do or something you are§ Read one sign.
※Go home you fraud!§ Said another one.
It is openly known that Beckham and Galaxy skipper Landon Donovan have been at logger heads in the past. Donovan apparently accused Beckham of been uncommitted to the team and egos between the two players clashed further after Donovan*s statements* against Beckham on a recent book, The Beckham Experiment caused a stir in American soccer.
Galaxy coach Bruce Arena mediated the feud between the stars and it is reported that the players have resolved their personal disputes.
Cheers were merely ambient compared to the severe booing Beckham endured and the heckling continued even after Beckham was finally substituted 15 minutes before game time.
Goals for AC Milan were scored by Thiago Silva in the first half and Filipo Inzaghi in the 61st minute.
Alan Gordon scored for Galaxy after 30 minutes and Bryan Jordan headed in the equalizer from a Beckham corner in the 65th minute.
Early this year, Beckham admitted that he would rather remain with AC Milan because Europe has superior standards of football and believes playing in Italy would prepare him for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
